QuestionSir, I planted both of the above from container last autumn in northern england. Both are throwing new shoots but I notice some issues on both, fiorst the crinedendron the leaves basically blackened and have more or less died off now with one or two shoots looking dead. The Daphne appears to have some sort of attack with small pale brown spots on the topside appearing but the real damage appears underneathwhere there is what appears to be a raised rim with a crater corresponding exactly to the spot on the topside, I am not sure whether this is rust or whether its an insect.
I hope you can help.
regards
AnswerNeither of these plants likes too much water. You may be overwatering the crinodendron. Cut back on the the water and see if the new shoots perform better. If not respond back in a week or so and we will go in a different direction on that one.
The daphne also does not like much water, but what you describe sounds like and insect as they do attract bees and flies when in bloom. I would treat that plant with an insecticide such as insecticidal soap or malathion and see the holes quit forming on the leaves. Let me know of your success. Good Luck.
