Questioni have a bed of small gardenia plants at the edge of my front porch. Probably, 12 small bushes (very low to the ground). Last summer, they begin dropping the buds and this season the leaves are yellow and they are not blooming (as everything else in the yard is. How can I tell is they are diseased or infected by insects?
AnswerSounds like a nutrient deficiency more than insects. Get your soil tested for pH. If the pH is above 6.5 then the plants are suffering from iron deficiency. The way to correct this is to add an acidifying fertilizer such as ammonium sulfate. This will take a few months to correct the problem but should take care of the issue. Good Luck.
