jade problems

Question
my jade plant is drooping and i just found some tiny white spots on some of the leaves and stems.  the spots are kind of webby,  could i be having a bug problem and a root problem?  what do i do, im new to this.  could this spread to aloe plants that are next to it.

Answer
Sounds like spider mites.  Spider mites are almost impossible to see with the naked eye. They are extremely small and a magnifying glass is usually needed to see them. They usually attack new leaves and buds. Plants infested with mites lose their green color and appear bronzed or washed out. In severe cases, the mites will form a fine webbing covering the underside of leaves. Once a plant is infested with mites, control will be difficult, if not impossible. Isolate your plant immediately, and dip it or spray it weekly with insecticidal soap. Systemic insecticides are sometimes effective if used soon enough.

Root rot is probably not associated with the white webbing you noticed, but you can examine the root system fairly easily by tipping the plant from its pot.  If you notice any mushy roots or a foul odor, then you have a root rot disease.  Such diseases are very, very hard to "cure".  A much better solution may be to take a cutting from one of the unaffected aerial shoots.  Rooting jade cuttings is easy.  Simply cut a 6" shoot, remove the leaves from the bottom 2", set the cutting aside for a day until a brownish callous forms over the cut surface, then place in a moist potting mix. Put the pot, cutting and all, in a clear plastic bag and put in a bright indirect light.  Roots will develop within a few weeks.  Gradually open the plastic bag to acclimate to the drier humidity.
