QuestionMy Calamondin Tree has small brown dots on some of the leaves and branches. Also the leaves have sap on them. Is this scale and the excess sap caused by over watering?
AnswerHi Patrick..from what I gather the sun may cause sap on the leaves. What you may have are spider mites. They produce tiny spots on the leaves. Some type leave fine webbing on the undersides of leaves. Mites are often associated with water stress and dust. You don't say if your plant is in a pot or ground. Minimum watering in the ground is about 3 inches a week, in a pot you may have to water everyday depending on the heat of the day. More heat more water, cooler days take less water. It is very hard to over water a plant in a pot as long as you have good draining soil and it is not in a dish to collect water. Spray with an insecticidal soap or 100 Percent Neem Oil which is what I use. It does not wash off so you get long protection, if the problem re-occurs, re-spray the new growth as it does not wash off.
