QuestionI have a jasmine tree in my yard, its been in the ground about 8 months. I am trying to remember the type of jasmine, but cant remember the exact name. Its one of types that alot of tree farms had to get rid of just recently. (river or water rings a bell) Any way, it had beautiful green leaves, got some red berries not to long ago, then some leaves started turning yellow and falling off. Now about 85% of the leaves are off. What's the problem? Some one told me if its not a water or fertilizer problem that maybe the 40 degree little on night cold snap we got in Port St Lucie that shocked it. What do you think?
AnswerHi Michele...it is either lakeview or orange jasmine. It should be looking green and lush as you live in a warm area. Mine in Sarasota were not effected by the freeze. It could be a bug you have on the leaves. Look under the leaf and see if you see some little black dots. These are chewing insects that suck the life out of the leaf. You could use a magnifying glass to get a better look.
If you just fertilized with a poor fertilizer and are not watering enough it could cause leaf drop as fertilizer depletes the ground of water. Not enough water, if you stopped watering because it is winter it will also cause yellow leaves. Hope this makes it easier for you to figure out what the problem is.
If it is bugs get some 100% pure neem oil and spray the bugs away. It will not wash off and give your plants allot of protection from other insects as well. It is also a fungicide and a miticide..kathy
