disease of mature hybiscus

Question
I have four mature hybiscus "trees" which had reached a height of 5-6 ft.Last summer a landscaper pruned them to 2 feet!  Now I hfind that the new leaves and flowers appear as shriveled growth which dry up immediately.  I have sprayed with Cygon to no avail.  I cannot identify a mite or other invader.  Is there any other treatment recommended?

Answer
Hi Ron..you don't say where you live, but in Florida we have what is called the pink mealy bug which is devastating the hibiscus.  They shrivel up the leaves and the flowers don't come out.  If we call the county they come out and release native lady bugs or a different kind of beneficial in the winter.  Now a freeze has come thru which should keep them at bay for awhile.  As for a chemical or poison spray, I am organic and would not know what to tell you.  Your county extension office may have some insite on this new bug.   Happy Gardening kathy
