QuestionI have a potted lemon tree. It has started to blossom this winter. This morning I noticed several leaves have dropped. Also several more are wilting and when you touch them they fall off. Could this be a disease or is it related more to water, fertilizer, etc. When it was outdoors this summer it didn't lose leaves as it is doing now. Thanks in advance for your reply.
AnswerHi Jay... sounds like your problem is not enough water. It is much harder to grow a plant indoors. If you have a basin under your pot you must empty it out after 15 minutes or the plant will rot. If it is above freezing put your plant out on the porch for fresh air when ever possible. If you fertilize use a slow release fertilizer so you wont burn your plant, it can also cause leaves to fall as you need to water more if it is not slow release. Not enough water is a quick sign with falling leaves, yellow leaves. You will water more outside than inside, they have testers to tell if your plant needs water if you cannot tell, they are not expensive. Also if the lemon tree has been in a container for a long time and not moved up to a larger pot it may not be getting enough water and is falling out of the pot and the roots aren't getting it. A product called saturade will help allot for container growing, not sure where you live or are able to get it. It is made by Florikan and the site may tell you. Hope this fits and makes sense to you. Happy Gardening kathy
