QuestionI have several Jasmine trees in my back yard. The leaves are falling off. I look closely at the leaves and on the backside of the leaf I can see very tiny orange/redish splotches. Then large black spots start to form on the front side of the leaf and then they fall off. What might this be?
AnswerHi Bob, you don't say if you have orange or lakeview jasmine. The lakeview is a better variety with less problems. I use neem oil 100% pure for all my plant problems at the nursery. You mix it with water and dish detergent and spray. It doesn't kill anything but alters the taste so the bugs go elsewhere. Once applied it doesn't wash off and is non toxic. It is a fungicide and a miticide. Usually the only time needed to re-apply is if the bug is still around and goes after the new growth, then you only need to apply to the new growth.
Another thing worth mentioning is bugs usually attack unhappy plants. Are you giving it enough water, 3 inches per week would get you by. A sign of not enough water is yellow leaves dropping off. Not enough water is a fast death, to much is a slow death...
There are other chemicals on the market, being organic I could not tell you which to use if you go that course...kathy
