QuestionI have a tropical cane tree (not exactly sure of the name - it was a gift) that has started getting white mold on its soil. I feel that it comes from too much humidity in our apartment, but scrapping off the top soil and watering less have not helped. Can you tell me something else that I could do? Does sprinkling corn meal on the soil really work? Thanks!
AnswerHi Natalie...since most fungi germinate in high-moisture conditions, good soil drainage is crucial to control. Good air circulation is also important, because it helps reduce moisture. Space plants so they have ample access to light and enough space so air can circulate freely.
Have you tried changing the soil? I believe you have a Dracaena also called dumb cane. Also, you could try leaving it outside for some plant healing, of course in the shade so you don't burn the leaves and not if it is freezing out. Also, a good drink from some rain for more nutrients. kathy
