QuestionThe tips of the leaves on my dogwoods are turning brown. Is this a disease or does it need more water? They were planted about 3 months ago and have been turning brown for a few weeks.
AnswerIt is lack of water and heat scorch. If you do not have it now mulch around the tree with not more than 3 inches of organic mulch. This will help hold the water in. The heat scorch comes from extended hot weather and maybe if the tree is in full sunlight. Dogwoods grow naturally in the shade or partial sunlight. Water with about 1 inch of water each week --place a pan under the tree and turn the sprinkler on and when the pan has 1 inch of water in it stop.
