QuestionI have this plant and it is dropping leaves every day. A few leaves have discolored to a dark brown. My neighbor recently gave me this plant and she told me it was dropping leaves, but didn't realize how much .... Is there something I can do ?
AnswerMy experience with shefflera when they drop there leaves is 9 out of 10 times a watering problem. If the plant is sitting in water or has been over-watered the roots of the plant will have a dark color and when you pull on the length of the roots the outer part of the roots will come off easy exposing a brown inner part of the root. If it is dry sometimes the rootball will become hydrophobic and be very hard to wet again, the remedy on this would be to plunge the roots, container and all into a bucket of water and allow to sit for 1/2 of the day. As far as over watering if it has a root rot there is not much you can do, there is a product called alliette that is available from Monterey lawn and garden in a 4 oz size that you could try. This product would be applied as a soil drench please read and fallow label directions.I hope this helps
