Question Hi, I have a pomegranet bush/tree that I bought 2 yrs ago at the local Lowes... the tag that came with the tree didn't really have much in the way of care listed. So far we have had 5 or 6 blooms that seem to be developing into fruit, only to fall off after a couple weeks. I would like to know what sort of fertilizer to use, and when to fertilize. Any additional info you could provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help you can send my way!
Answerpomegranates prefer semi-arid climate with cool winters and warm summers. a humid climate can affect fruit set. They are self pollinating but a companion plant to cross pollinate will increase fruit set. Please allow 3 years of growth before you can expect fruit set. They prefer a well drained area in full sun and can take a drought situation after establishment. Deep water and allow the soil to dry somewhat before the next watering. Every 2 weeks should be plenty if the plant has set a good root system. Fertilize in the spring with a fertilizer such as 5-10-5 with calcium and fallow label instructions as far as amount needed according to the size of your plant , apply this type of fertilizer again at after blossom set and in early fall.
