QuestionWe recently added two climbing honeysuckle to our landscape. The one gets light almost all day and more in the afternoon. There are several dime size white spots on some of the leaves. Almost like bird secretion, but looks more like a spore? Treatment?
AnswerI assume you have tried to wash off the "spots' if it is some kind of deposit it will wash off. If not it is a fungi. More then likely one of the many leaf spot fungi, These do not really cause a problem unless they cover more than 30% of the leaves. Then they may cause the plant to slow down its growth. You can spray the leaves with a fungicide such as Daconil, or Benlate. These can be found at any nursery/garden type store. The leaf surfaces will need to be sprayed with the mixture and if it rains the fungicide will have to be reapplied. It is a preventive rather than a real control. I would just leave it be and watch it every other week. Fungi grow slowly and you will have time to spray IF the spots increase drastically.
