Question
Hi, I hope you can help. We have a tree in are yard I have know idea what it is called,but it appers to be graphed on to the top of a regula turnk. It looks just like and umbrella and if you stand underneath it you can see all the branches are not out stright but twisted up(Which is not the problem)
The leaves seen to have this strange growth on the top side , It looks like somthing went on the back side of the leaf and made a hole and push the leaf out creating a pod but made out of the leaf material itself. I ripped one open to find little grey bugs inside. They are so little I can't see how many legs they have . At first I thought they might be seeds.
This tree is droping alot of leaves, some with these pods on them so without.
I hope this discription helps you,if you have no clue what this is can you suggest someone who may have the answer.

Hi Hillary,

I am not an entomologist, but there are many insects which use the leaves as nesting (and feeding sites).  I have little experience with such insects, but I will try to do some looking around.  In the meantime, try to see if there is an entomologist "expert" that may be able to help out.
