QuestionHi- not sure if I've got the right expert, but I'll give it a shot. Here's the problem:
I have 2 Chinese Pistachios in my yard (we just moved here last fall). One looks great, one seems to be dying. The 2 are about 20ft apart. The dying tree started with wilting leaves which are now entirely brown but still on the tree. This tree is also close to the fence, and just the other side in our neighbors yard is a pear tree that is doing very similar things- it's leaves are now black.
We live in extremely sandy soil but have had an unheard of amount of rain this month. The neighbor has said there is some sort of underground funnel along the fence line that chutes water out into the gutter that he think has damage (???)
Do you know how to tell what is killing my tree? Too much water sounds ridiculous in Texas, but this month we've had probably twice as much rain as normal.
Any advice much appreciated-
L
AnswerHi ,Leslie How r u? It sounds like with the combo of the drainage problem and the excess rain u guys r having your plants came down with some types of fungi/root rot/and or blk spot which pears n pistachios can get. Both can b treated by ether a leaf spray or a soil drench with a fungicide.I would call a CERTIFIED ISA ARBORIST And Have both your plants n your neighbors pear treated at the same time. You guys may want to split bill to save a few bucks.I would think this would cost under 150$ 4 both problems.GOOD LUCK!!KEEP ME POSTED!!P.s U may find a product at the garden center 4 root/rot n black spot/and,or wilt To do yourself but i dont know Texas pesticide laws/Im in NEWYORK!
