QuestionWe planted this tree into our landscaping about two weeks ago. We kept in our garage for a week or better before that, due to a frost. At first the leaves were looking kind of dried out, now they are looking almost like something is eating on them. Any ideas? I live in southern tip of Indiana.
AnswerHi,Carol How r u doing? What sounds like is going on is the tree is in transplant shock.Which is where the the leaves look dry and look like they have been chewed up.There r some things that should of been done before planting. The good news is u r on top of your plants n care before its 2 late.I need u 2 go to your garden center and get a bag or 2 of compost with organic matter/humic acid in it.Also get a liquid fertizer with a N/P/K# of no more then 8/10/10 and make sure u can spray foliage and soil with product. One bottle should due.Step 1 mix compost in with soil around base of tree ,making sure not to pile high around trunk of tree. Then treat soil and leaves of tree with fertlizer.Read label for amount to use depending on size of trunk of tree. These treat ments will help stimulate root growth while helping to green up tree. Then as tree moves forward about a month later start improving soil with a good orgainic fertilizer, liquid or ganular. Also add a nice mulch ring atleast 3ft round to help keep soil cool in summer/and warm in winter, and keep lawn mowers from trunk.I love weeping red buds n have had great results planting and taking care of them in my years in the biz.I wish u luck n please keep me posted ,and any help u need just ask!!Thanks
