flowering cherry blossom tree

Question
Our cherry tree has had a very sad existence. It has never achieved the flowering bloom that I see on other trees. I assumed that there was a fungus and have been treating it for that. However the trunk of three seems to be gnawed away like a deer was eating it or some other insect. I'm at a loss as to what to do next. I do not want to remove the tree as it has a very sturdy trunk and I am sure that with a little proper remedial care it can come back. Please help me as I have had no luck with the local garden shop.  Thanks in advance

Answer
Hey,Brian                                                            How u doing it sounds like the tree is under some stress and thats why the tree is not buding out.Check some things out 4 me  since i cant see the tree my self.make sure drainage is good and the soil is not to high on trunk of tree.then i would get systemic insecticide called merit, madeby the bayer company and follow label and this will protect it from bores termites etc from getting in tree.I would also get bone meal and mix it into the soil to help feed the tree.Try these things give it some time and if it dont improve hire a Isa certified arborist to treat the tree. Thanks,Chad
