QuestionHi,
Last Year I planted a Bartlett Pear Tree and it has been doing very well. Lots of growth and it has bloomed out nicely this spring.
This past week or two it has developed Red Bumps on the leaves?
I haven't been able to find anything in my searches on the net about this.
Is this something I should worry about?
If so what is it and how would I go about curing and preventing it?
I have other fruit trees in the vicinity and they have no sign of this problem.
I live in Northern California zone 9
Any Help you may be able to provide me with would be greatly Appreciated
Thank You
Clay
AnswerHi,Clay
It a gall, which is bumps which is mutated leaf tissue that caused by feeding of tiny mites. They hide over winter ,and emerge in spring, they start green so you dont see them then turn red.Sorry once you see them its to late to treat them but however they are no threat to the tree. They are just not to nice to look at!! Next spring you can treat them with a mite control product at your garden center when buds break. Thanks,Chad
