QuestionMy Japanese Zelkova is dead, I'm going to cut. How can I remove root? Can I plant same tree at same spot? Many thanks!
AnswerTo completely remove the root system you will have to dig up the roots from the dead tree. Go out from the trunk about 6 inches for every inch of trunk diameter--dig around circle and dig down about 12 inches deep and remove this area. This should get most of the root system. Fill the hole with good top soil and yes you can re plant what ever type tree you want there.
