QuestionI lost a purple plum this spring, the leaves shriveled and the bark turned very black and separated. I took the tree out but now I have an ornamental pear that is starting to exhibit the same simptoms. Is there anything I can do to save this tree that we love? I live in Tehachapi, CA.
AnswerOrnamental plum and pear trees are both susceptible to fungal diseases, but it's hard to diagnose a plant problem without actually seeing it. If your ornamental pear tree has no other symptoms (poor growth, curling leaves, etc.) you may have to take a photo of the problem and take it to your local garden center for identification. Hope the news is good!
