QuestionHi Jim,
I read your advice about aphids on holly and think I have seen that on mine. The new growth on my plant seems to be targeted mostly. The leaves have holes in them with brown around them but also look like something is chewing on them at the edges. I was wondering if this is consistent with aphids or what else they are succeptible to.
Thank You,
Scott
AnswerNo aphids do not cut holes in the leaves they suck the juice and make the leaves curl. Sounds like you have an insect that is feeding on the leaves. I would check close and see if you can find any insect feeding--may not be able to find them--some feed at night. If the feeding continues I would spray the foliage with an insecticide-Orthene,or sevin type(chek with a garden type store). If the feeding does not continue then the insect has completed it's life cycle past the point where it feeds on leaves and you will not need to spray.
