QuestionI had an old Plum tree cut down after it died. I used the stump (Large) as a stand for a bird bath.
The garden area around it was geraniums which developed black rot I destroyed them. the stump is also finally rotting, loose crumbling.
Is the soil affected by the black rot and or the stump rotting. Had varied answers cant tie it down to what to do? Want to replant. thank you
AnswerNo the soil would not be effected by the decay fungi. These type fungi infect wood and break down the woody cells. They will not be in the soil. In fact the decaying material will help the soil by adding organic material. Planting in that site will not cause harm to newly planted plants.
