QuestionI recently cut back a hedge of Photinia (about 20 feet tall), it had a massive amount of dead leaves underneath. (about 30 yrs worth). I live in southwest Oregon so we have wet springs and hot summers.I subsequently got severe aches, pains, chills and loss of appetite. My question is: did I stir up some spores or viruses when I raked the dead leaves or is it something else I need to research?
Thank you for your time.
Kate
AnswerI know of no reason for the photina to cause any of these problems. In fact one web site on allergies said this is a good plant for people who have allergies. You may be allergic to the mold in the decaying leaves if so these symptoms should go away in a day or two. But the chills and aches sound more like a virus than a allergy. I would go see a Doctor.
