grape tree

QUESTION: Hello:
I got two small green grape tree two months ago, planted them next to each other about 5 fts apart. same soil, same amount of sunlight.  I notice the tree on the left side is growing very fast and start climbing onto the trellis but  the right one is just not growing at all. what can i do with the right side tree. thanks!

You did not mention how the plant looks exactly.  Does it have leaf spots or show signs of diseases or insects present or is it just "sitting" there doing nothing.  You may consider contacting your local plant nursery/garden center about getting a soil test or trying a bit of general fertilizer per their recommendations.  Your local county Agricultural Extension office is also a good resource.

If you would like, you can send a photo or two of the plants side by side for comparison.

QUESTION: Hello Dr. Vann:
the grape tree is healthy, no leaves spot no diseases, the leaves are bright and green.  It looks the same like the other grape tree that's growing. the only thing is it is not "moving" at all.  while the other grape tree next to it start climbing on my trellis.  the soil is the same in that area.

I am not aware of any insects nor diseases that result in the symptoms that you describe. I would be suspicious of some difference in the soil or the cultivar of grape.  There may be some differences in soil nutrition/type over the 5 foot distance.  I would still encourage you to have the soil check or even try a small amount of a general fertilizer like soluble 20-20-20 dissolved in water (1/4 tsp/gallon). Also, check with your garden center for their suggestions.
