QuestionI have read a few of your comments regarding problems with Chinese Pistache trees. My Chinese Pistache's leaves are turning brown and dropping off. I make sure it is irrigated often because it is very hot in the summer where we live. Could gophers be causing the problem? There are no visible above-ground signs or gopher holes, but we are on an acre of land, and do have problems with gophers.
Thank you for your time in this matter.
AnswerHi Debbie:
It is my understanding that gophers can nibble on tree roots. They have a wide range when it comes to diet. I would focus on the signs if I suspected these critters. Look for the openings in the ground and also other plants that have similiar symptoms. I do not think that these animals are going to zero in on only your tree, but damage others in your yard as well.
