Answer
Hi Mary,

I cannot tell you the exact problem with your gloxinia.  There are many things that can cause the type of browning that you see.  It is possible that the problem is related to watering.  These plants like moist soil.  However, overwatering can lead to root rot.  You may want to check the roots on your plant to ensure that they are white and healthy.  If they appear brown, this suggests a root rot problem.  There is no cure, but avoiding overwatering can sometimes help.

Gloxinia plants prefer bright, indirect light.  It is possible that where you have the plant is not meeting the needs of the plant.  Make sure that it is getting proper light.

The other possibility is a problem such as Botrytis blight.  This is a fungal problem that can cause browning of the flowers and leaves.  Usually, it occurs in humid locations.  You may want to put some of the brown flowers and leaves in a plastic bag with a damp paper towel.  If you reexamine them 24-48 hours later, you will want to look for brown, fuzzy fungal growth.  If you see this, it suggests Botrytis blight may be to blame.  Reducing humidity often takes care of the problem, but in some situations fungicides are used.

I think that your temperatures are appropriate, as long as the soil remains moist.  Gloxinia plants are very difficult to grow and they do not generally survive well as house plants.

Sorry I can't be more specific with your problem.  There are many possibilities.  Hopefully, this will help you get to the cause of the problem.

Good luck with your plant.
