QuestionEven though it's june, my elm has been loosing leaves like crazy. The tree has been watered well, but I noticed tonight that there are larvae IN the leaves, I've also found several red wasp like insects on my driveway. I am sure they are sawflies, and they are killing my beautiful shade tree. Any suggestions on how to rid the tree of the sawflies and save it?
AnswerThannon:
I"m not much of an insect person, but it is best to first get an accurate ID on these critters. Some insects have more of a health impact than others do. Suggest carrying a few of these insects and affected leaves into your local county Agricultural Extension office to get a correct ID OR you may consider carrying them also to your local nursery/garden center too. These two sources should be able to get you and Id, then determine the most appropriate control for them. The Extesnion office is usually in the county seat courthouse. If you have trouble finding a telephone number, drop me an email with your county name and I may be able to locate it.
