QuestionTwo weeks ago we transplanted into ground a Japanese red maple that is about five years old that we had grown in a pot. The hole was at least twice as large as the root ball, and we have watered generously. A few days ago it started to develop yellowish, slightly raised spots of various shapes and sizes on many of its leaves. They are most common around the edges of the leaves. Where they are advanced, as in a few spots, they have caused the leaf to curl and shrivel.
Is this a normal reaction to the transplanting or is some pathology involved?
AnswerHi Richard:
Couple of questions. (1) Can you send me a photo of a group of leaves that are representative of the symptoms that you describe. You can remove and arrange a few leaves together on a gray piece of paper or you can take a photo of a group of leaves on the tree(2) Are these spots distributed rather uniformly over most of the tree or are they concentrated near the bottom, top or one side?
A photo should help with a diagnosis. Be sure to review your image on the computer before you send, to make sure it is in focus and crisp.
