Question
avocado leaves dry
Hi,
My avocado started drying from top of the leaves and the dry area is spreading all over leaves along with yellowish hue and brown spots. Avocado is grown from the seed in following climate conditions:

Due to winters here I have to keep the avocado in a pot indoors. During March-November it is on the balcony with lots of sun. Whole idea is to have a decorative plant that I would trim to be more like a bush.
There are two questions I would like to ask:
1) Is this a treatable condition?
2) Should I lower my expectations and get some less sensitive plant instead? This is not a preferred solution, but if avocados can't prosper in a pot.... :(
Thank you for your help!
AnswerHi Roman, The biggest problem you have right now is that you are drowning your tree. The black on the leaves indicates root rot. You could save the tree by cutting way back on your watering. If in a container empty out the excess water if collected in a dish under the pot. The avocado is a 40 plus foot tree, so it is difficult to grow it in a pot. Also they become root bound and will never fruit and eventually will choke them selves with the roots. Cutting back on watering you can restore the new leaves back to normal, but in the end all you will get from this plant is green leaves. kathy
