Weeping Willow tree

Question
Weeping Willow
Weeping Willow
I have a 7-yr old weeping willow tree that has red spikey patches all over it.  I found a similar question on this website that was answered by Jim Hyland on 9/10/11.  Do you concur with his assessment that a borer beetle has infested the trunk and his solution?

Answer
Hi Michele:
I have not seen these structures associated with borers or any other insects on weeping willow.

To me, these structures in your image strongly resemble "air roots" or adventitious roots which are formed in response to frequent rainfall or high humidity. They are harmless.  Usually dry up and shrivel.

Using "Google Images" your computer, search for "air roots" or "air roots on willow".

Regards
Steve
