QuestionI have a large area of mundo grass that has been healthy for 25 years, now it is all turning yellow on the tips and is easily pulled up without any effort. I think it may be a root fungus. If it is a fungus what fungicide should I buy and how would I use it? Thanks for your help, Sandra
AnswerHi Sandra, Mundo grass is susceptable to a fungus that attacks the root systems due to poor drainage or excessive water. Maybe from drought followed by heavy rains. The yellowing is brought on by pythium which is a pathogen that attacks and enters the root system cutting off nutrient supply. The University of Florida is studying Atomic Grow due to its ability to stimulate root systems in extremly high nematode populations. Typically where there are nematodes there are other soil born pathogens. Fungicides will help but will also harm the microflora populations. We know that Atomic Grow stimulates microflora populations due to its sucrose additives. Atomic Grow will also suppy the grass with a much needed carbohydrate and create energy systemicallygreatly enhancing the plants ability to fight this pathogen on its own. I would recommend applying a light layer of compost to the soil after a good soil drenching with Atomic Grow. This will feed the plants and stimulate microflora populations at the same time providing a biological and safe solution to the problem. kathy
