QuestionWe have had the above tree for about 3 years now and it has been doing very well. However, recently I noticed yellow leaves mainly on the top of the tree. In examining the leaves (yellow and green) I noticed they have small brown spots all over them. Is this going to kill the tree? Thank you for your help.
AnswerWilma:
Usually, leafspots alone don't have a significant impact on an established tree. Make sure tree is being water/fertilized well and be sure not damage the bark. Yellowing of the leaves may be an indication of a root/soil problem. A soil test may be helpful from a nutrient standpoint.
Generally for leafspots, I recommend just raking up and destroying fallen leaves during the winter and before spring gets here. Many disease/insects can overwinter on fallen leaves. Raking and destroying these leaves can reduce the incidence of these pests.
