petunias getting eaten

Question
Hi,
I also have petunias that are getting eaten by inch worms and are covered by little black spots are the spots droppings? and will the spray fill the flowers that have already bloomed do i spray the flowers as well as the leafs and stems???

Answer
Dear Pamela, Caterpillars are very annoying, but you can get rid of them pretty easily.  The black spots are definitely droppings left by the worms.  You will need to spray: now you could spray with Bacillus thuriengensis, but that actually takes a while and several applications to be effective; or you could use a product like Bonide Caterpillar Killer that should be very effective.  The Bonide product works on contact, so you don't have to wait and respray several times, and it should last for about 6 to 8 weeks.  If you don't notice a marked improvement with the first spraying, then spray again.  The nozzle to this product is adjustable for spraying in trees or in flower beds.  Oh, and petunia blooms will only last 1 or 2 days, so if you spray and ruin the blooms, then you will have more very soon, so be sure to spray the entire plant and underside of leaves.  Or you could spray very early in the morning, just about dawn, and then the blooms would open as usual.  Good luck, Melissa
