QuestionMy Mimosa has been full and beautiful for about 10 or so years. All of
a sudden, the top is dryed out and dying. It gets watered everyday by the sprinkler system. There is new growth beneath the dead stuff. I have not a clue !! Any ideas?
Thank you !
AnswerDee Dee:
This tree, unfortunately is quite susceptible to a wilt disease called Fusarium Wilt. No cure unfortunately. You may consider getting an accurate diagnosis which will involve getting a lab to examine the internal woody tissues of branches. It gradually affects the whole tree, causing a progressive decline and wilting of the branches, despite watering etc. Removal/replacement with another different tree may be called for. You can contact your local county Extension office located in the county courthouse and request an on-site visit where someone can examine the tree in more detail.
