Questioni have 2fushias plants in my coastal garden they are growing well but there are loads of holes in the leaves why thankyou
AnswerHi Janet,
Without seeing the leaves, I will base my answer on your description and the host plant.
It is likely that the damage is due to leaf cutter bees. They cut out circular holes from the leaves and use the leaf pieces to build a nest. Some leaf cutter bees love fuchsia. Since you have not indicated that you have observed any insects, this is a good possibility. If it were beetles or weevils, I think you would have noticed them on the plant.
I suggest you review the information at the following website because it provides a picture of the bees, the damage and other information. http://www.ext.colostate.edu/pubs/insect/05576.html
You may also want to look at the images at this website because it shows different types of damage caused by insects. If you can determine which pattern matches the holes in your leaves the best, it will help determine the possible culprit. http://www.btinternet.com/~micka.wffps/leaf1.html
Good luck!
