Plum Tree Dying

Question
TREE
TREE
I have a established Italian plum tree.  It got aphids earlier this spring.  I used the Dawn dish soap method to wash the leaves.  Then I released lady bugs to help in the fight.  The aphids are no longer an issue.  Now the main trunk of the tree splits in 2 sections the smaller section is still living and producing plums.  The mail trunk has died off but has little new growth appearing in places. The main trunk started to split open in many places before it started to die off.  There was no oozing of any kind from the splits.
Any ideas?

Thanks for your help in advance

Answer
Hi Jessica,  Thanks for the photo that really helps.  You need to remove the grass around the drip line of the tree so your roots can dry out.  I feel your tree is getting too much water looking at your nice green lawn.  Pit fruits like peaches, apples and plums, etc. like a nice one a week watering.  By removing the grass it will allow the area to dry out as with the grass it is not.  You may also want to check out a product called Atomic Grow that can bring your tree back to health and it totally made from food.  Being organic it can not hurt you when you eat the fruit.  kathy
