QuestionQUESTION: Dear Kathy,
I have 2 Brown Turkey fig trees each in a container. They both had woolly aphids on them about a week or 2 ago. I was able to kill them with a solution of warm water and dish soap. One tree is doing well while the other has brown leaves. The small fruits are also browning. The trees are fairly small (about 3 feet) since they were purchased late last summer. Can you tell me what to do to cure the plant of the browning?
Thank you.
Pamela
ANSWER: Hi Pamela, Figs are harmed by nematodes and fig rust. A lot of moisture in the air or over head spraying of the plant can cause browning of the leaves. Nematodes clog the roots of the plant and the plant does not grow. A product called Atomic Grow raises the brix in the plant and makes it healthy so fig rust or nematodes go elsewhere. Your fruit will also be sweeter as brix are the sugar content in a plant. kathy

QUESTION: Thank you for the advice. I'll look for brix. Do you have an organic solution for the woolly aphids that are attacking all of my plants?
I have just one more question. The leaves on my nandina are turning brown. The other one is fine. I didn't see any aphids. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
Again, thank you for you time and guidance.
Pamela
AnswerHi Pamela, same thing for aphids, a healthy plant the bugs go somewhere else...Atomic Grow is organic so it will not hurt you either and can be used on all your plants safely. Is the nandina getting enough water one may get enough the other not enough. kathy
