QuestionI planted 8 oakleaf hollies this spring in full sun - backyard. They seemed to do fine untill recently. I noticed this week that they have dropped alot of leaves, the leaves were browm but not spotted or anything. Any suggestions as to the problem? Thank you
AnswerAt this point, I would recommend that you wait and see what happens. I don't think there is any reason to panic at this point.
Since there were no spots, this problem may be due to transplant shock. Sometimes it takes a month or more to see the symptoms. Usually, the shock sets in when there is an environmental change such as hot temps, dry weather, intense light, etc.
It is likely that the trees will show recovery in a few weeks. They will probably start to put on new growth and the browning should stop. If they continue to worsen, you may need to dig up one of the severely affected plants to ensure that the roots are light colored and healthy. It is possible that they were affected by a soil-borne problem prior to purchase.
Good luck!
