Question
Tree trrunk Leaves
My tree leaves are severely eaten and the trunk bark is peeling. Does it have a disease or infested by beetles? I attached pics. And I believe it is an elm tree. I moved to this house less than 1 year ago and it's been like this since I moved here and have even gotten worse since It located very close to our house
AnswerJanet:
I am not sure that this is an elm. Remove and carry a small twig with leaves to you local garden center/nursery to get a correct ID. The peeling bark may indeed be normal for this tree- depends on the correct ID. The leaf feeding is probably insect. Spraying a tree this size may not be economical/practical. There are insecticides that can be applied to the roots and taken up by the tree for leaf feeding insects. If the tree is well established, leaf feeding can often be tolerated without significant impact to oveerall health plus there are usually predators that keep insect populations in check.
