Question
Shademaster Locust
I appreciate your help in identifying the problem with our 20 year old Shademaster Locust. This year the tree has less than half of its normal foliage and numerous branches appear to be dead. We've never had an issue in its history and do not want to loose it. I've attached a photo of what appears to be a mold that covers many of the branches. What treatment is available to preserve it. Thank you.
AnswerKevin:
These "leafy" grayish green things are lichens. These are not plant disease agents. Often seen on older or declining trees that are growing in shade conditions. Seen on rocks and fence posts too. They do not cause diseases, but often result from other reasons. My wife says I have them on me too!!
