meyer lemon tree fruit

Question
My meyer lemon trees fruit look like something is eating the outer layer of the fruit. Almost looks like small scrapes all over it. How do I correct this?

Thank you for helping me.

Answer
Small scrapes on the fruit is most likely evidence of insect activity. The problem could be snails which can cause scrapes.  They usually leave behind some evidence of their presence such as a slime trail.  It could also be the citrus leafminer.  You can find a picture of the damage here: http://www.cfnews13.com/article/entertainment/2010/september/149816/Watch-out-fo...

If the problem is citrus leafminer, there are insecticides to control it which can be found at your local garden center. Horticultural oil works well.  Be sure to check the label for directions and to verify how close to harvest you can apply the product.  If you will be picking the fruit soon, you may not be able to safely apply an insecticide.

Good luck!
