Brown Spots on Hydrangea

Question
Hydrangea Spots
Hydrangea Spots
QUESTION: i am sending some pictures of this hydrangea. other than the brown spots some leaves have been curling. HELP

ANSWER: Lee:
From your image, I do not recognize any particular infectious disease here.  The appearance and pattern of these spots suggests to me some sort of injury rather than a microorganism.  The injury may be of a contact type, so review anything that may have come in contact with the leaves like a spray or splash.  If the leaves were subjected to a sudden drop in temperature, this might cause this, but again, I don't think this is a contagious thing, but rather a one time event.  The curling may also be due to some environmental thing.  Watch the new leaves to see if the spot appear there too.

Steve

QUESTION: i had asked another question about the same leaves and you said that it was Cercospora. So you can imagine my confusion.

Thanks, Lee McLean

Answer
Lee:
Not all spots are created equal.  Take a look at Cercospora Leaf spot in this bulletin that I prepared.  Got to the link and see the images.

This spot looks different than the one in your photo, plus your photo seems to show the spots in a more uniform pattern, rather than a random pattern like Cercospora.

Sorry for the confusion, but I think you will be able to see some distinct differences.
