QuestionI have a very old oak tree that has ferns on most of the limbs--no worry. Now, they are not responding to water(rain) and the leaves on the tree are sparse and tiny. What is going on? I live in a rural area next to a WEYCO forest.
AnswerTommie:
Not sure what the story is here. If the ferns are drying up and turning crispy despite the rain, I would be curious about any weed killer or other chemical applications or perhaps a sudden cold snap in the weather. You may wish to contact your local county Agricultural Extension office (usually in the county courthouse)to arrange for a "house call" to see the tree in person. An on site visit may very well give clues.
Sorry to little advise.
