QuestionI have a Meyer lemon tree (growing in a large clay pot) that blooms beautifully. The blooms fall and you can see perfect tiny green lemons. The problem is the lemons go from green to yellow in 2-3 days, then yellow to brown in the next 2 days and then they fall off. The tree came with 2 beautiful, juicy, large lemons, so I know it is capable of producing fruit. I just can't figure out why the tiny fruit ripens and falls off before it ever grows. The tree gets citrus fertilizer in the spring and Miracle Grow periodically. It is watered when the dirt is dry 3-4 inches down. The tree itself is growing perfectly. Any suggestions?
AnswerHi Brenda, Unfavorable conditions at the time of bloom such as very wet or very dry soil conditions may cause flowers to drop without setting fruit.
A fungal disease called post-bloom fruit drop can attack the flowers and cause the tiny fruit to drop. A Product called Atomic Grow can help make your tree healthy to fight off fungal problems that can not be seen with the naked eye. It is organic so you do not have to worry about poisoning your fruit. Miracle Grow contains salt and chlorine that is detrimental to your plants, it is used to make the product heavier for a larger profit. Be sure to read labels when purchasing anything.
Also, keep in mind that even mature, healthy citrus trees normally set from only a very small percentage of the blooms that are produced. kathy
