QuestionThis has been happening the last three years. My geraniums look great after initial transplant into large pots for a period of two to four weeks. The leaves then start to curl, turn yellow, and the entire plant loses its bright green color and looks anemic. The geraniums were given Miracle Grow/water mixture when transplanted. I can't see any possible pests or indication of fungus...any suggestions???
I live in the Wheeling, WV.
AnswerBarbara,
Did you plant them in new, fresh potting soil? Does the container have a drainage hole that is open? If you've used the pots in the past, the hole might be clogged. You don't need rocks in the bottom of the pots but the holes should be clear (nothing covering them, not even a leaf) and the soil new.
Yellowing leaves usually mean that the soil is too damp. Geraniums like to dry up in between waterings. In addition, they don't respond well to moisture on their leaves, so when you water them be sure to put the hose or can underneath the foliage.
Does this help? If none of the above applies, write back and we'll problem solve from there.
all the best,
