QuestionHello,
I am a beginner gardner and I have some nasturtium plants that I planted from seeds and they have grown up nicely - I have a full bush of green "lily pad" shaped leaves but no flowers as of yet and its been a good month - how long does it take for flowers to develop? I live in CT (northeast) and primarily get the most full sun in the mornings/early afternoons. I do water them every other day so they get enough water. Anything else that I can do to promote flowering? Thankyou for your help :) Kim
AnswerDepending on variety and weather conditions, Nasturtiums bloom anywhere from 35 to 80 days after germination.
Warmth and tons of light are best, but you can't do anything about the DNA when it schedules bloom nearly 3 months after you see the sprouts.
We have had cool weather this Summer, although lots of rain -- which is good. But not if you overwater them. Take it easy with the watering can; if it rains, don't add water until you are sure your seedlings are ready for it. You'll grow a fast crop of Botrytis if you're not careful. That will wipe out your seedlings overnight.
If you still have the seed pack, let me know what it says. We'll count those days together.
