Impatien flowers

Question
I live in new jersey and just planted impatients under my trees..I did not fully take the whole rooting system I took the flowers out with my hands only taking some....then later found out I should have cut the whole roots. Will I lose them or how can I keep them from dying?

Answer
The proper procedure is to definitely take as much of the root ball as possible. This doesn;t mean that your transplants will not survive, but it will certainly be a struggle for them until their roots are established in their new location. Be sure to water them well every day for at least two weeks. You also need to mulch them with shredded bark or leaves to help keep in moisture and keep the soil temperature consistent. After the two weeks, the roots should be established. If they make it that long, they should survive.

Good luck, and please write again if you ever need assistance.

Regards,

Mike
