insectcacidal soap

Question
QUESTION: How do you make insectacidal soap

ANSWER: Hi Tom:

You don't make insecticidal soap you buy it anywhere they sell plant products. Some are ready to spray and some you mix with water. Insecticidal soap is a potassium fatty acid soap. It affects the  structure of insects cell membranes allowing the contents to leak out and the insect dies

It is environmentally friendly and good for all small or soft bodied insects, like aphids or caterpillars and many more--look at the bottles label and it will have a list. It must land on the insect to kill it.

Spray it on a cloudy day or in early morning or early evening because a hot sun will burn wet leaves.

I hope this helps          Myrna

QUESTION: I just responded to your follow-up evaluation. I'd appreciate if you could clarify Thanks

Answer
I don't know if I can make it any clearer than I did.
Insecticidal is pure potassium fatty acid soap. In other words it is pure.

detergents which are in dish soap have ingredients to cut grease and abrasives and a whole lot of other things. Type in detergent and see what you get there is a whole long list of things.

If you had asked about your impatiens I could have told you what to do. If they have spider mite and you can see the webs they are pretty far gone. You can use insecticidal soap on them. I have done it. Just keep them out of the sun after you spray. A good shot of cold water and  like a shower or sink spray helps, Get the underside of the leaves and do it often because spider mite hatch out every 3 to 5 days          Myrna
