Question
I planted several Gerber daisies three years ago.  They keep coming back, but some have not re-bloomed.  Am I not pruning them properly.  Where do you prune the flowered from the stem, from the top, or at the base?

During the growing season, you only want to prune the stem. Pruning the entire plant will prevent it from blooming.

You may also need to divide the plants since this is normally done every three years. If the crown or base of the plant is crowded, it can affect blooming. Just drive a spade through the crown after digging the plant out and replant each section. This is an essential process for all perennials.

Perennials do need to be pruned in late fall down to 6 inches. You then want to cover them with an organic mulch such as straw or shredded leaves. This will protect them through the winter. In early spring, remove the mulch and fertilize with a balanced water-soluble product. The plant should then bloom shortly after.
