QuestionI have grown petunia's for years. This is the first year that they have gotten really leggy. Can I prune them back and still get blooms for the remainder of the year? I deadhead regularly so know that is not the issue.
AnswerCut down to the first or second leaves on the stem and you'll help them branch out more and stay stocky. Deadheading is an excellent practice and more people should do what you're doing.
Bear in mind Petunias every year are often different hybrids. These may have been prone to this condition.
Pruning will delay blossoming, but if your area does not get colder than 30 degrees, there will be another few weeks of bloom flush to go. Do not fertilize or over-water.
